ArcFax and SparkFS) and other low cost programs, including Games. At the end are demonstration versions of commercial software. Some CDs including Games CDs are in the CDs/Books catalogue. By demand from customers we now have a selection of commercial software at low prices. It's a bit short because I only list items I can sell VERY cheaply. Check this list before you buy elsewhere, and remember, prices INCLUDE VAT and UK carriage. IMPORTANT -- As some items contain printed manuals they can heavy. This means we have to charge extra postage for OVERSEAS customers (UK postage is always included). Where this applies the extra is shown in curly brackets AT the end of the title, like this {£2} Overseas postage is NOT (yet) added on by the !Order program so PLEASE don't forget to add it to the total price calculated by !Order and remember it's for overseas custoners ONLY - UK postage is included. ============================================= ================ C O M M E R C I A L S O F T W A R E ================== ============================================= As this section of the catalogue is now completely redundant and has little historical interest we have removed it in the interests of brevity (it was quite large) and retained just the commercial Demo disc section. ======================================= =================== C O M M E R C I A L D E M O S ====================== ======================================= These are demonstration versions of commercial software. Many are functional with restrictions. For example most playable demo's of games have only a couple of levels instead of 50 or more in the full game. Software producers - This is a cheap and powerful way of spreading the good news about your products. No matter how much money you spend on colour ads in magazines it's not nearly as persuasive as giving someone a 'demo' version and letting them use it. If the program is any good they'll get 'hooked' and you've made a sale. If it doesn't do exactly what they want perhaps you won't sell a copy but you won't have a dissatisfied customer who feels he/she has been persuaded to buy something they didn't really want. Instead they will be pleased with your service and happy to consider your products in the future. Prospective purchasers - By PC and Mac standards software for Acorn machines is cheap. However it's a good idea to try a program at leisure before parting with your money rather than relying on reviews and a five minute demonstration in a shop by a salesman who may be more interested in getting you to part with your cash than pointing out that the best product for your needs is the one he doesn't stock. If a company doesn't produce a demo of a major application so you can't 'try before you buy' then ask yourself WHY and try those that DO first ALL SOFTWARE IN THIS SECTION IS COPYRIGHT. You are permitted to use it to evaluate the program to help you decide whether you wish to purchase it. Before passing on copies of any software please read any Copyright messages on the disc. Some items have not been sent directly by distributors. We normally confirm there is no objection to programs being distributed but it is possible we may have something to which a distributor objects. APDL has included all these items in good faith and most companies benefit greatly from this type of promotion. We believe there is nothing here which would be detrimental to the Copyright holder. If you object to an item to which your company holds Copyright we will withdraw it if requested. If your company has products for which you produce demos or updates of any items in this section we would like to hear from you. We are always happy to include demos of products by reputable software houses. D500 Hawksridge LABYRINTH v2.00. Graphical adventure by Alex Hopkins. Fully playable and quite enjoyable. A three level playable demo of PESKY MUSKRATS PLUS a useable demo of the NOTATE music program D507 A fully playable demo of PSYCHEDELIC ROCKERS from Green Angel Design. D508 VECTOR drawing package v1.10. A working demo version of the program from 4Mation but with the Save function disabled. Vector is the enhanced commercial version of Jonathen Martins Draw Plus on disc B060 PLUS 4Mations DBEdit desktop Basic editor. The nicest Basic editor I've seen. Fully operational except that the Save and Run functions are disabled. Before buying another editor have a look at this. D509 PIPEDREAM 3 demo. Fully functional except you can't save or print. This has now been supeseded by Pipedream 4 (see next disc) but it's still available, often very cheaply, so if you are thinking of buying Pipdream it might be worth looking at both before you choose D510 PIPEDREAM 4 demo. As with the previous disc this is fully functional except that you can't save or print your work. Well worth looking at before you part with your cash. o---------------------------------------------------o | If you are unsure which version of Pipedream you | | want I will supply PD3 + PD4 archived on a single | | disc but with fewer examples - Order as D509+D510 | o---------------------------------------------------o See also Resultz, Fireworkz and Wordz on D538, D539, D540 and Fireworkz Pro on D547 D511 Playable demo of LEMMINGS by Krisalis. I suggest you also try the PD version by Tom Cooper on disc G009. PLUS a playable demo of CATACLYSM from 4th Dimension. D512 POSTER from 4Mation. This functional demo version has only a single font instead of the twenty supplied with the full version and you can't Save your work. D513 NOOT from 4Mation. A program for creating interactive 'book' like animated packages for use as teaching aids. D514 SNIPPET from 4Mation. Allows a part or the whole of any screen to be saved at any time. Once again Save is disabled. D515 SMART from 4Mation. An interactive program designed to help in teaching. A second demo with example files showing how the program can be used as an interactive aid for teaching modern languages. A whole series of ready made 'subjects' is available from 4Mation designed to cover most of the curriculum. D518 TITLER and SEQUENCER from Clares. These are working programs but both have the Save function disabled. D519 SCHEMA Working demo version of Clares spreadsheet. Save and Print have been disabled but everything else functions PLUS Some screen shots from Clares games put together using Illusionist -------------------------------------------------------------- These discs are demos of Clares programs created with Illusionist. They consist of animated screen shots etc. but are not functional. D520 ARMADEUS D521 ARTISAN D523 ILLUSIONIST -------------------------------------------------------------- D524 Two nice demo Illusionist animations, DALEK and RED ROCKER, using screens created with Render Bender D525 Oh No, more LEMMINGS. Playable 5 level demo of the sequel from Krisalis Software. Although this demo is self contained the full product is not, and you will need to have the original Lemmings. PLUS 3D CONSTRUCTION KIT A 'working' demo from Domark. D526 IMPACT database from Circle Software. Almost the full program but 'crippled' so it can't create databases but only use the sample included (a simple name and address type). Otherwise it's functional. You can enter data and use it, ie. everything works so you can print labels, load and save etc. To 'unlock' the extra features you phone Circle Software, credit card at the ready, they give you a code and send the printed manual. Impact can be used for mail merging with Impression using Impulse and exchange data via the Acorn CSV format. At nearly £50+VAT Impulse seems a bit dear for a straightforward dbase (compare with £10 for Power Base). However there would appear to be no bar to using it in the form on this disc indefinitely so worth a look. PLUS CADet = A functional demo version of the CAD package from Minerva. Most features are useable but you cannot save your work. Comes with an example drawing. Imagery = A useable demo of the art package. As usual the Save function and some others have been disabled. D528 Micro Trader = Working demo of the accounts package from PRES. Some functions are disabled. It is not possible to save anything, the VAT is disabled, only part of a report can be printed and you can't print any invoices that you create, only the samples. All the main functions work so it gives a good idea of the product. D529 Demo version of the DIGITAL SYMPHONY editor/player from Oregan which is probably the best program of this type available for the Arc. Completely functional except you can't save your work and it quits after a short time. Comes with seven demo Symphony tunes. Definitely the best program of this type. *** updated June 94 *** D530 REPTON 4 = Playable demo of the latest version of this classic LAST NINJA = 6 level playable demo of the game from Superiour Software POPULOUS = Playable demo of the game from Krisalis D531 A sampler disc of resources being made available by iTa. There are files for Junior Pinpoint, My World, Geography, Eureka and Data Sweet. These obviously need the original applications and are intended for use in schools. D532 RHAPSODY-3 and RHYTHM-BED demos from Clares. These will only load and run the demo files which are included but you can play around with them and try out all the functions of the programs. D533 PERFORM and SERENADE demos from Clares. Again functional but no SAVE D534 TOPOGRAPHER demo from Clares. Once again no Save or Print functions but most others work. Contains a short tutorial and some examples. D535 PRO ARTISAN demo from Clares. Usual restrictions but includes three good examples. One of the best art packages around at the moment so take a look before you part with your loot. D536 PLOT demo from Clares. "a flexible data manipulation and presentation package combining the features and ease of use of a graph plotter with the power of a professional manipulation and plotting tool". Sounds good, so give it a try. KNOWLEDGE ORGANISER reader. This is not a K.O. demo but a 'display only' distributable version with samples. D537 EUREKA a functioning demo version of Longman Logotron's spreadsheet with several examples. Plus functional demo versions of KEYSTROKES and MAIL MAN D538 WORDZ Useable demo of the wordprocessor from Colton Software. Full version has spelling checker and thesaurus. Can't Save or Print. Note that this and the following Resultz and Fireworkz demos are the full versions direct from Colton and not the 'cut down' demos which have appeared on cover discs NB - You need 2Mb to use any of the new Colton programs. D539 RESULTZ The successor to Pipedream. Again Save and print are disabled. D540 FIREWORKZ This is a combination of Resultz and Wordz and can be used as a wordprocessor with full spreadsheet functions or visa versa. Unlike Pipedream it really is a fully functioning wp. See also Fireworkz Pro on D547 D541 WORDZ, RESULTZ and FIREWORKZ demos compressed on to a 1.6Mb disc. In order to get all three on one disc some of the example files have been omitted and there isn't room for a copy of ArcFS. NOTE - This disc is available as 1.6Mb only and costs £2.00 D542 MATHS CARD Functional demo from Creative Curriculum Software (CCS) of a program for creating maths worksheets for use in the National Curriculum. Saves the finished worksheets as Drawfiles so they can be printed out neatly for use by students. Handles all standard operations. Comes with several sample worksheets. PLUS LANGDALE Demo of a multimedia project delivery system from CCS D543 G-DRAFT Demo version of CAD program which can be used for any type of technical drawing. Operates in the desktop and has a maximum drawing size in excess of A0 with up to 8 layers. Can print to HPGL plotter or output in DrawFile format for printing via the Risc OS printer drivers although these functions are disabled in the demo version. D544 INTERNATIONAL GOLF Playable demo version of the golf game from Q-Soft HAMSTERS Non playable demo of the game. MORPH FACES A demo showing four 'morphing' faces created with Oregon Software's MORPHEUS program GUARDIANS Single level playable version of Guardians of the Labyrinth from Soft Rock. 3D CHESS Playable version of the desktop chess game from MicroPower. This game is only 'crippled' in that it's 2 player only, you can't play the computer. D545 Detritus Demo. This is a 'cut down' version (only nine screens) of what would appear to be a graphics adventure game. Apparently the full game occupies six discs. The Authors don't seem to think it's worth writing proper instructions (and what there is seems rather puerile and somewhat lacking in punctuation), but what can you expect from a company that calls itself Myndgaemz and doesn't mention the price of the full product? (Must be ex-A***a owners!) D546 Sibelius 6 and Sibelius 7. Demo versions of what is probably the best music composing/processing programs available. These are functional except that you can't Save or Print your work. D547 FIREWORKZ PRO The 'professional' version of Colton Software's Fireworkz package. Has extra features and functions.
