Getting Started
===============
BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE YOU SHOULD ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR WORKDISC
ARCHIVE.

To install !Forthmacs on your harddisk just copy the !Forthmacs
directory inside the 'WorkDisc' .
You can of course run RISC OS Forthmacs from the disk, but that will be
not so much fun even with RISC OS Forthmacs internal file-caching.
The RISC OS Version should be 3.1 or later.

RISC OS Forthmacs needs 380 kB of ram with the Large option but 512K to 2MB
are much better. Using the Small option will be ok with 180kB.
The differences are 32/8 file handles, 4/1kB cache per handle, smaller stacks,
and a smaller transient address space.

Updating
========
To make updating easy and to keep net-costs low, all RISC OS Forthmacs
tools, applications, updates and add ons are ZIP/deflated archives.
Each archive holds a !Forthmacs directory that can be copied over the
existing !Forthmacs directory using a tool like SparkPlug or Spark.
If you got your distribution via disc - or if you asked for that -
SparkPlug is included.
After that you should start Forthmacs once, some updates will run a
installing procedure.

The Tcl Shell
=============
The latest RISC OS Forthmacs versions above 3.1/2.60 have a Tcl/shade
shell included to start Forthmacs applications.
This shell application will appear as an icon on the bar whenever you
do a double click on !Forthmacs.

Drag - a Forthmacs source file on the 4th icon and it will be interpreted.
Select - open the !Forthmacs directory display
Adjust - starts Forthmacs
